Taggiasca olives take their name from the town of Taggia in the Imperia province, near Sanremo, where they were originally brought by the Benedictine monks of St. Columbanus. Over the centuries grafts of Taggiasca olives also reached other parts of Italy, but the major crops have always remained along the western Ligurian Riviera.
